“District 9” Director Neill Blomkamp to Direct New “Alien” Film

Neill Blomkamp revealed on his personal Instagram today that he will, in fact, direct a new Alien film for Fox as his next project. This comes on the heels of Blomkamp revealing in January that he had been unofficially working on concept art for an Alien project, after striking a rapport with Sigourney Weaver on the set of his next film, Chappie.

Ridley Scott‘s Scott Free production company will produce the film, which is intended to be set after Prometheus 2, which Scott is currently set to direct.

Blomkamp’s style seems like it could be a good fit for the Alien universe, in the wake of Elysium and the wildly popular District 9. You can check out some of his Alien concept artwork below.

Fans can get their next glimpse of Blomkamp’s sci-fi work in Chappie, which opens March 6.
